Top Marks for Social Value initiatives

It’s not just what we do, but it’s how we do it, and making a positive contribution to the communities we work in is something we try hard to achieve. Under the leadership of our Project Manager, Simon Brown, our team at our most northwestern site proactively engaged with the local school to explore potential avenues for supporting their facilities.

We received a big welcome by lots of happy little faces at Haverigg Primary School. Our site team working at the nearby Ministry of Justice UK project at HMP Haverigg has gone the extra mile by donating their time and resources to help deliver social value to this local community in several ways:

👉  Construction of a new outdoor seating area, replacing a concrete cobbled section with steps,
👉  Minimised disruption to their classes by conducting the works during half-term,
👉  Laid a concrete base on the playing field for a storage shed, kindly donated by Wates Group,
👉  Recycled scrap metal from the site raising a total of £1,329 and donating to the school for educational resources,
👉  Creation of employment opportunities for the parents of the students at the school.

💬  Mrs Narongchai, Headteacher Haverigg Primary School, commented:

“When Moortown got in touch with their generous offer we were delighted. The end product, our “Sitting Steps” have been a huge hit with the children and everyday we have small groups of friends taking a bit of time out to sit and have a chat (we have also had numerous whole class photos taken on them too). As if this wasn’t enough, we have also been given a new shed, complete with a concrete base, to replace our old and crumbling PE store. What can we say except a huge thank you from the staff and children of Haverigg Primary School!”

Thanks to our proactive team initiating simple acts of kindness. It’s great to see the positive impact this has made.
